What is writing?

Writing is one way to tell someone about your idea, your feelings, and your opinion. Writing is kind of the way to communicate with others. Writing is a kind of hobby and a job. I like writing. I love writing about reality, myself, great events, or about idealism.

How to start writing? Imagine there is someone in front of you, and try to tell something to him. Try to tell something and write down one word. Then do not stop your pen, let the pen writing and do not stop it. The words become a sentence, the sentences become a line, the lines become a paragraph and you become a writer.

For me, writing is an important aspect to proportionate my life. Sometime, we do not need to talk with someone, we need write down our repeated sighs. Our soul need to be alone for a while, take a distance from others, try to hear our deepest heart to understand the meaning of our live.

Writing is a good medicine for depressed people. Express our deepest feeling by writing it in a piece of paper. It’s work for almost peoples. If you love someone but it’s become one-sided love tries to put into words and start writing!

I’m so envious because my friends have a good in English. Some of them have been living here more than a year. I have been there for a month by this next Monday. I’m feeling inferior because all of them are older than me. I’m the youngest student in that class.

Sometimes I feel lucky, because I have learnt English for many years when I was in my school. My friend here think that English as the first language in my country. But it’s not true because we learn English in our school and try to improve this skill by our self. We use Bahasa Indonesia all the time. I feel lucky because Indonesian alphabet is the same as English alphabet, the different  just the pronounciation. So it’s easier for us to learn English. Can you imagine that Chinese, Thailand’s, Indianesse, and some other country use very different alphabet with English so, they must learn the english alphabet and remember the entire alphabet from A to Z.

Know I’m at the 5^th level of CELPAD in this university to learn English. Generally, my classmates are Arabian and Melayu. But I’m the only girl from Indonesia. I think it’s very interesting class. Do you know why? Because we can introduce each other, share about our country, try to understand their custom and it’s very wonderful experience to meet people around the world.

I’d like to share about our hobbies, try to tell who I am, and try to know each other. So we not only learn English but also learn to make friendship with another people who are different with us.

Now, I try to borrow some book from my sister but if I cannot get that book I must spend much money to buy it. I don’t want to do that, because it’s such a squandering thing. It’s so difficult to find that book, I asking everybody but they said they don’t have that book but another book. I’ll try until the end of this week, and at Monday I will buy that book if nobody can lend me that book.

In the first week you enter IIUM, you will have various tests to measure your ability and skills. There are :

EPT : English placement test

Measure your English. The first part measure your skills in reading, writing, and grammar. If you pass this part you will move on the second part, listening and speaking class. If you have TOEFL score > 550 you will not sit in CELPAD (Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development). There are 6 levels and your EPT result will determine your level. 

I wasn’t pass this test. I was sit in Level 5 (for one semester), and get more than 75% of the full marks. So that, I can sit fot EPT test again. Alhamdulillah, in this second test, i passed .

2. APT : Arabic Placement test

For Kulliyyah of ICT, I must passed two levels. I have little bit knowledge about arabic but I cannot passed. So that i must start with level 1.

3. FKT : Islamic Fundamental Knowledge Test

This is like PAI (Pelajaran Agama Islam), the difficult thing is the language. In my case, i didn’t know the maning of ablution (wudlu’). If you pass this test, you will not sit in fardlu ‘ain class, but in halaqoh 1 class.

4. Tilawah Test

There are two levels of tilawah class. You will recite Al Qur’an and the examiner will ask you to recte some short surah of the Qur’an.

I was exempted in the first level, so I moved on the second level.

Bridging Subjects to Kulliyyah of ICT

1. Matemathics

Its not difficult, the subjects include matrices, function, logarithm, integral, possibility, etc like high school math (MADAS or matematika dasar). The most confusing things is the language, because i learnt this subject in Bahasa Indonesia, so that I confused about some words, and I didn’t know what the question talking about. I was fail

2. Introduction to Programming

I never learn this subject before, so I was fail

3. Basic Computer Science

 This is the easiest subject that I could do. Just talking about software, hardware, and some application. Very basic thing and some time sill question like “What button do you choose to turn on the computer?”
